چکیده
Tension pneumocephalus has been reported most frequently after posterior fossa surgery performed in the sitting position. We present a paediatric patient who developed tension pneumocephalus in the postoperative period after decompression of a craniopharyngioma performed with the patient in the supine position.

Symptomatic tension pneumocephalus following Palacos® cranioplasty in a shunted patient.
Tension pneumocephalus is an exceedingly rare complication of cerebrospinal fluid diversion occurring after surgery, trauma or spontaneous fistula formation. We report a case in a patient with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt who developed symptomatic tension pneumocephalus via a skin defect within 24 hours of undergoing bone cement cranioplasty.
متن کاملTension pneumocephalus complicating ventriculoperitoneal shunt for cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea: case report.
A case of spontaneous nontraumatic cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea secondary to aqueductal stenosis is reported. The patient required direct repair of the fistula after the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt for aqueductal stenosis. We emphasise an unusual complication of tension pneumocephalus in a case where the shunt patency had been substantiated. Intracranial pressure fall due to th...

Pneumocephalus has been reported after posterior fossa surgery especially with procedures performed in the sitting position. The gravitational effect is the decisive factor in the development of pneumocephalus. The entrapped air in the aqueduct may enlarge due to several factors such as elevated body temperature and may cause to deterioration in neurological status. We report a rare case of ten...
متن کاملDelayed Tension Pneumocephalus following Gunshot Wound to the Head: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Tension pneumocephalus is a rare complication of head trauma and neurosurgical procedures, amongst other causes. It is defined by the combination of intracranial air, increased intracranial pressure, and mass effect. Although it often presents soon after surgery, it can also rarely present in a delayed fashion. We present a case of delayed tension pneumocephalus, occurring approximately 16 week...
متن کاملEmergency management of an acute tension pneumocephalus following ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery for normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Tension pneumocephalus is a rare and life threatening complication of intracranial surgical procedures, and requires immediate recognition and surgical intervention. Tension pneumocephalus following ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery is extremely rare and commonly seen as a delayed complication. To our knowledge, early postoperative tension pneumocephalus after shunt surgery was reported only i...
